WiNN PORTUGAL
The founders of WiNN Portugal started a chapter because they wanted to create a strong, welcoming space where women working in nature-related fields in Portugal could connect, support each other, and become more visible.
WiNN Portugal hopes to create a practical support and growth network for women working in nature-related fields in Portugal, helping them connect across sectors, share experience, learn from each other, and become more visible in conservation and nature-related fields. As the chapter grows they plan to expand into activities including trainings, networking and mentorship opportunities, and story-sharing events that help women grow even more professionally.

Chapter Lead Marisa Rodrigues holds a Ph.D. in Animal Science and Agriculture from São Paulo State University, in Jaboticabal, Brazil. She spent years researching and documenting the decline of bees and pollinators before increasingly feeling the need to work closer to the people experiencing climate changes firsthand and founding GROUNDD, a women-led consulting firm that brings communities, NGOs, governments and businesses together to design conservation approaches that strengthen local livelihoods while building resistance to climate change in Africa, Asia, and South America.
Marisa is one of the minds behind Groundd’s CERS Framework. CERS is a comprehensive approach that combines financial, environmental, and social criteria to evaluate conservation projects managed by Indigenous Peoples and local communities to assess their viability and sustainability. Recently, Groundd became the core technical partner in a competitively awarded Outcomes Accelerator grant and through this work, Groundd is helping design a scalable outcomes-based financing mechanism for a landscape of more than 2 million hectares linking two of the Americas’ most threatened biomes.
