Leeanne Alonso will lead the session and we'll hear from several of WiNN's founding members about their unique and interesting career paths, including Ana Liz Flores (Wyss Foundation), Rebecca Kormos (filmmaker, IUCN Great Apes specialist group), Renee Gonzalez (Mexican Fund for the Conservation of Nature), and special guest Anne Savage (Proyecto Titi and Animal Kingdom (Disney). We also want to hear about your careers! Participants will have an opportunity to share their experiences and career paths during a brainstorming session and breakout groups. This will be a fun conversation of interest to all WiNNers- budding job seekers to established experts! You won't want to miss this so we hope you can join us! September 9 | 11 AM - 12 PM EST ---------- Zoom Meeting ID: 946 1079 6573 Passcode: 713354 ---------- Debby Ng is a disease ecologist and co-founder of the Himalayan Mutt Project (HMP), which was set up to reduce community and wildlife conflict with dogs. She will share how a search for red panda launched a community disease monitoring program in Nepal’s Himalaya. Chandrima Home is a recent Ph.D. graduate from the Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE), the Manipal Academy of Higher Education, and a full time mom. She works on bridging the science and communication divide by being a more communicative scientist and currently is a Grants Adviser at the DBT Welcome Trust India Alliance. The overall aim of their project is to empower the local community members to use the ecosystem wisely and ensure sustainability so that the environment thrives, and the community members can meet their livelihoods. After the presentation they look forward to hearing from other WiNN members to gain insights on how community work will proceed post COVID-19 since this requires gathering and face to face participation.

Margaret holds a PhD from the University of Cadiz, Spain and the University of Algarve, Portugal. She has a Masters in Water and Coastal Management. Her research focuses on various areas with her focus being on using the ecosystem services approach to map and value the benefits we receive from nature. She has also been working on enhancing community involvement and participation in conservation through education, awareness through tree planting initiatives. Session Leader: Midori Nicolson Midori will give us a unique presentation on the significance of birds in Kwakwakawakw culture of British Columbia, Canada, and specifically how they utilize birds in their field work in fisheries as indicators of species abundance and overall ecosystem health. Midori is Musgamagw Dzawada̱ʼenux̱w from Gwayi, Kingcome Inlet, a small coastal village in British Columbia, Canada. She is a biologist and fisheries manager for the Musgamagw Dzawada̱ʼenux̱w Fisheries Group and sits on her nation’s governance body. She has worked as a consulting biologist, land and marine resources director, and a Fisheries and Oceans Canada Coastal Planner. The focus of her work is to increase indigenous capacity & stewardship regarding lands and aquatic resources, while recognizing the essential voice of women in stewardship.
